The Top 5 Pageant Gowns at the Grammys

by pageantprofessors

What makes a great Grammy gown? If people are chattering about it live via Facebook and Twitter as it makes its way down the red carpet or talking about it for days following  the show, a great Grammy gown was born. This is the case for several attendees this year including Katy Perry (that chest!) and JLo (that leg!). Many of the gowns could even be used in the pageant world. Our top five favorite gowns from the Grammys are listed below with an explanation of how they might work for a pageant. Be inspired!

Pageant Inspiration from the Grammys

Solange Knowles

5. Solange Knowles

Solange rocked one of my favorite trends of the season-sleeves! I think sleeves are the  “IT” look right now whether they are long, short, or simply capped. It is such a glamorous, demure statement. I think this dress would be perfection for a Mrs. contestant, especially if paired with gigantic earrings. I’d love to see a high bun with this or loose long waves. The color is fun and the sparkles on the fabric would pick up stage lights well.

4. Rihanna

Rihanna was the belle of the ball in her flowing, red gown. Studies show that women wearing red are often perceived as more attractive, so take note. This dress would be PERFECT for any Teen contestant. Her lipstick and hair were also perfection, making this look simply dynamite.

3. Taylor Swift

Taylor Swift looked like a Grecian goddess in her red carpet ensemble. Her dress would be great for either a Teen or Miss contestant especially if paired with a huge pair of golden earrings to complement the dresses details. I’d love to see long flowing waves or a high bun with this dress as well.

2. Jennifer Lopez

JLo’s one-sleeved black gown with a ridiculous slit left everyone talking. It was almost as big of a scene stealer as the Versace gown she wore several years back with the plunging neckline that traveled down past her navel (Google it, you won’t be disappointed). This girl knows how to rock a red carpet. Her black silky gown would work best on a Miss contestant but we’d recommended closing the slit a few inches and choosing a brighter color. Closing the slit may make the leg appear to be thinner; JLo’s slit was at the widest part of her thigh which wasn’t flattering in some shots.

Katy Perry Grammy 2013

1. Katy Perry

Katie Perry’s mint green dream of a dress made jaws drop. This buxom pop star made sure to flaunt her very best assets even after the dress code memo from the network was delivered to the attendees prior to the event. The memo stated that celebrities couldn’t bare too much boobie. Oopsies! Whatever. We forgive her; she looked amazing. This would be a show stopping gown for a Miss or Mrs. pageant contestant especially if the fabric was a little more shiny or metallic. Did I mention I love sleeves?  The minty hue is also spot on for Spring. Work it, Katy!
